From Farm Neck:

“As you play, you will find yourself traversing a striking variation of topography and vegetation — everything from woodlands, to open meadows, to salt marshes, to stunning overlooks and intimate brushes with the water's edge. Along with its intrinsic beauty, Farm Neck enjoys a widespread reputation for championship caliber golf.”

Our Take:

Farm Neck is a private club that allows public play. It’s hard to get to unless you live on the Vineyard, it’s expensive, and since it’s a Country Club it can feel a bit snooty, but if you choose to ignore these issues, you’ll have one of the most enjoyable rounds of your life. It’s a fun course with a breathtaking setting. At just 6,301 yards from the blue tees, the course finds more creative ways than length to challenge you. Marshes, water, and woods all come in to play throughout the round, but if you can manage to take your eyes off Vineyard Sound and onto your next shot, you can put up a good number. If you’re looking to play Farm Neck without having to take out a second mortgage, check out the fee schedule. If you play during the afternoon either early or late in the year, you can get on for $60.

The 5-Handicap Perspective:

The tendency at Farm neck is for holes to be short and narrow. Luckily, I’m familiar with short and narrow. If you’re smart and are willing to take iron off the tee when the situation calls for it you’ll be able to play the course well. But honestly, Farm Neck is one of those courses where you have to enjoy the walk and the views and let your score be a sideshow.

The 15-Handicap Perspective

I don't often get to play courses this nice. The boat ride over adds to the adventure of the day. The course is always in great shape, and isn't too intimidating except for a few shots over water. It's super fancy, but if you play it off season in the afternoon you can pay just 60 bucks.
